Teaching at the Limnological Station aims to combine field with laboratory work. During the spring semester a block course is offered for advanced students at the level of the bachelor or master curriculum. The participants are trained in the identification and quantification of planktonic microorganisms and/or their chemical signatures (pigments) and they conduct ecophysiological experiments with pure cultures and mixed assemblages of aquatic microbes. The course acquaints the participants with microscopic techniques and with molecular biological and biochemical approaches in aquatic microbial ecology. Problems are studied by two-member groups making full use of the available equipment and advanced analytical instruments of the station.
The Limnological Station also offers 6-12 weeks internships between semesters for advanced students of microbiology, and a theoretical course in limnoecology.
